“John Wayne in a Prom Dress” is out now!
Eryn Michel's first collaboration with producer Austin Bello has birthed a mesmerizing cinematic country/Americana landscape in “John Wayne in a Prom Dress,” a hymn to the fruitless but familiar search for closure and understanding in the aftermath of a relationship upheaved.
Thanks to “John Wayne in a Prom Dress” and two future releases, Eryn is a finalist for the Bernard-Ebb Songwriting Award, which honors the best songwriters in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. She will join the other five finalists (Deborah Bond, Teghan Devon, Taisha Estrada, Nim Greaves, Samiah Perry) on Friday, April 12 at 7 pm at the Strathmore Music Center. Michel will perform with her longtime collaborator, songwriter Susan Rowe.
Praise for "You Say" from Alchemical Records:
"Eryn takes the listener on a journey connecting near and far, accessible and longing, possible and impossible and smudges all the lines in between through a purposefully watery dreamscape. Eryn is a masterful lyricist and prolific songwriter and 'You Say' will be the first of many releases we get to enjoy. We can expect a number of collaborations in 2023. Buckle up!
Eryn wanted to release 'You Say' ahead of a flurry of collaborations. She felt it important to establish the foundation of who she is as a songwriter and as an artist. The creation of “You Say” is 100% born and bred Eryn. She wrote it. She performed it. She produced it. She mixed it. She mastered it. She released it. Now, put those headphones on and go listen to it. We did – and we loved it!!"
As the first song on Songcraft 2, Darling Eye ushers in a fresh chapter of artist collaborations penned by Chris Peace and brought to life by his indie muses. Darling Eye is a soulful Americana reckoning on the fleeting human experience, wrapped up with lush harmonies and an unflinching guitar motif.
Peace acknowledges and respects the time-honored tradition of how songs are pitched to artists, but in Songcraft, he is blazing a fresh trail. The Songcraft concept is simple: Peace writes songs for the artists who inspire him. He then boldly pitches a freshly-composed piece directly to them, along with an invitation to collaborate and bring the song to life together. "Each song is tailor-made for the artist's individuality and uniqueness," the Philadelphia-based songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist reveals. He says of the artists he's worked with - "they inspire me not only as a songwriter but as a musician as well." Listen to Darling Eye here!
